yoga insetLiz Hughey, Manager
In 2001, Liz Hughey turned to yoga when she couldn’t bring herself to spend another hour at the gym. She found Bikram and Vinyasa classes answered her need to move and sweat. However, what started as a workout soon began to offer Liz the opportunity to make an authentic connection with herself and the world. Elizabeth has trained with Richard Freeman, Ana Forrest, Shiva Rea and Patty Townsend of the Yoga Center Amherst, where she completed her 200 hundred hour certification. Liz’s classes are invigorating and playful, using breath and movement to bring consciousness to every cell, so that students can fully inhabit and enjoy their bodies, as well as the spaces in which they live.

yoga insetAmanda Brooks
A series of unrelated but synchronistic events led Amanda to her daily practice in November 2004; a business trip to India where her associates practiced yoga daily and a convenient yoga studio located on her everyday path to work left Amanda no excuses. After her first workshop with Jimmy Barkan, she knew that her path would take her to a teacher training. In the summer of 2006, Amanda completed Barkan’Äôs 200 hour training. Shortly after, she completed a vinyasa flow training with Sean Corne. Amanda teaches traditional hot yoga and vinyasa, yet she continues to be inspired by the students themselves. Aches and pains are noted and treated as well stress. Amanda lives by the motto that absolutely anyone can benefit from yoga, the first step is to simply show up on your mat daily. The gift of yoga is the strong body and clear mind that we attain.

yoga insetChris Paradis
Chris began practicing yoga four years ago while on sabbatical as head coach of the Amherst College Women's Lacrosse Team. A highly accomplished World Cup Lacrosse player, Chris turned to yoga for stress reduction and relief from chronic back pain. Shortly after beginning her yoga practice, it became apparent to Chris that yoga yielded considerably more than mere relaxation. A natural teacher, Chris wanted to share the benefits of a rigorous vinyasa practice with college athletes. In 2005, she attended her first teacher intensive with Shiva Rea. Inspired, the training sparked the beginning of an ongoing quest to attain knowledge about the physical, emotional and spiritual journey of yoga. This year, Chris will complete the 200-hour teaching certification program at Embodyoga, directed by Patty Townsend at the Yoga Center Amherst. In her classes, Chris establishes a supportive environment where she challenges, nurtures, and inspires students to work through emotional and physical limitations through breath and the daily practice of asana. In addition to instructing at Sindhu, Chris teaches yoga at Amherst College where she is the head coach of the nationally ranked Women's Lacrosse Team. (Photo by Dani.Fine Photography)

yoga insetDanielle Intile
Danielle began practicing yoga ten years ago. A competitive athlete, Danielle turned to yoga for relaxation, as well as a mental and physical challenge. Through the practice, Danielle channeled patience and discovered the daily joys of life. Danielle studied at the Sivinanda Ashram in Quebec, founded by Swami Vishnu-Devananda, where she received a thorough exposure to the essence and teachings of yoga in an intensive teacher-training program. The course provided her a profound personal experience based on the ancient guru kula teaching system that involves integrating yoga training into daily life. Danielle has also studied under John Friend, Ana Forrest and Rodney Yee. Before moving to Massachusetts four years ago, Danielle taught yoga in Maryland and Hawaii, where she instructed world-class surfers. Her classes provide students a welcoming environment, imbued with warmth and a playful kindness, where she encourages students to honor their bodies without judgment. Each class is challenging, creatively sequenced and articulated to a lively soundtrack. When she is not teaching yoga, Danielle works as a professional photographer with Dani.Fine Photography.

yoga insetEric Salus
In 2003, Eric lucked in to a Chicago vinyasa class led by certified Ashtangini, Terri Smith, and he never turned back. She taught him the traditional system of Ashtanga yoga, and he is daily humbled by its power to strengthen the body while softening the distractions and disturbances of our hectic world. He has studied with numerous senior teachers, including Terri's mentor Nancy Gilgoff, Tim Miller, Manju Pattabhi Jois, David Williams and Matthew Sweeney. His adjustment training with David Swenson taught him to accept the challenges of the practice with a sense of humor, while encouraging him to guide aspirants with a firm and steady hand. Eric moved to the Pioneer Valley in summer of 2006 with his wife, Shona, and daughter, Isla. His son, Bram, was born August 2007, and when he is not chasing an imp or changing a diaper, he might be found projecting film at the Amherst Cinema Arts Center. Eric’s classes open with the traditional invocation, and follow the exacting count of vinyasa and asana prescribed by the Primary Series; he welcomes initiates with appropriate modifications and adjustments, and encourages all to cultivate the benefits of a daily practice. yoga insetLaura Markus
Laura began teaching yoga in New York City in 2002 after receiving her certification from Manhattan¹s OM Yoga Center. She has also completed a restorative yoga teacher training with Judith Lasater, an advanced teacher training with Rodney Yee, and she is a practitioner of Thai yoga bodywork. Though she is continually seeking to expand her knowledge of yoga by studying with master teachers, her greatest source of inspiration for her teaching comes from her students and her own personal yoga practice. A playful and compassionate teacher with a nurturing spirit, Laura's teaching focuses on cultivating mindfulness while coordinating movement with breath, creating the experience of an invigorating yet soothing meditation in motion. She strives to offer the experience of a safe yet challenging yoga practice to all levels of students, encouraging them to explore the inner workings of their own bodies and minds while honoring and accepting themselves as they are in each moment. In Laura¹s class you can expect lots of intelligently sequenced and creative vinyasa flow, emphasizing strengthening and deeply opening the body while exploring how the breath can guide the body into proper alignment. She is extremely happy and grateful to be able to dedicate much of her time to the practice of yoga and is deeply honored to act as a guide to others who journey along the same path.
