Yoga Descriptions:
Vinyasa
- Vinyasa literally means "to place in a special way" but is more commonly understood to mean "flow". In a Vinyasa yoga class postures or asanas are connected through the breath to create a steady stream of movement. Each movement is initiated and supported by the breath. Vinyasa classes promote a cleansing sweat as well as the potential for deep release in the body. Within the flow of our classes we emphasize breathing, safe and intelligent movement, and spaciousness in the body and mind. Our Vinyasa classes are challenging, rejuvenating, and balancing. The practice will teach you to untie the knots in your body, focus your mind, cultivate self understanding, and to let go. This dynamic flow class incorporates a variety of strength building standing poses, balancing poses, and core work, connected by the movements of sun salutations. This class is open to all levels.

Bhava Vinyasa - Bhava Vinyasa is taught by Peter Rizzo, founder and owner of Bhava Yoga in Brattleboro. This class offers a wide range of asana in order to help work through our deeply-held pains and tensions and perceived limitations. A typical Bhava Vinyasa class begins with the chanting of OM and Kapalabhati breathing. We then move into sun salutations and standing poses for 30-45 minutes, to warm the body and establish a centered mood. We focus on deep breathing, in a Vinyasa flow, and on proper alignment. The rest of the class is devoted to asana on the floor: a well-rounded blend of twists, forward bends, backward bends, balances, inversions and rests, carefully sequenced so as to access the inner grace in the more "difficult postures". All classes include meditation practice and a substantial final relaxation sequence. Some previous experience with yoga is recommended, but not required, since we aim to serve all students. The challenging experience of Bhava Vinyasa practice strengthens and stretches the body, helps to quiet the mind, and uplifts the heart. All Bhava Vinyasa classes are one hour and forty-five minutes long.

Vinyasa Essentials is a slower paced flow practice where we explore both the individual movements of the sun salutations and the poses that make up the vinyasa practice. This class is open to all levels and is a wonderful place to begin if you are new to yoga or are interested in a slower practice to help deepen your understanding of vinyasa.

Lunar Flow - This class is similar to the open Vinyasa class in that it's an active and strong heated practice but a Lunar class moves more slowly and incorporates many poses that are lower to the ground, such as lunge sequences and hip opening poses. The focus of a Lunar class is on restoration, meditation, and on finding deep relaxation within strong work. Beginners may enjoy the slower pace of this class.

Forrest Yoga - Ana Forrest has spent 30 years developing Forrest Yoga specifically to address current day stresses and challenges, both physical and emotional. Forrest Yoga use intense pose sequences, compassionately taught, to develop skills in awakening each of the senses. The practice teaches you to bring aliveness, using breath, into every cell of your body, igniting your passion for living.Forrest Yoga helps you connect to your core - getting strong and centered. It uses heat, deep breathing and vigorous sequences to sweat out toxins. The long holds in the pose progressions help you flush, oxygenate and rejuvenate every cell.
